The ongoing feud between rap titans Kendrick Lamar and Drake has been one of the most talked-about subjects in music in 2024. With back-to-back diss tracks, music videos, and a concert uniting the West Coast on Juneteenth, this rivalry has created memorable content in hip-hop history.

While fans debate who came out on top, the real winners are the local businesses that have flourished after receiving recognition from Kendrick or Drake.

Here are the restaurants that have surged in popularity amid the beef:

Tam’s Burgers − Compton, California

In the “Not Like Us” music video, which has garnered 41 million views as of now, Kendrick Lamar and DJ Mustard, the record’s producer, make a stop at Tam’s Burgers. The duo is seen enjoying a meal inside the restaurant with a woman dancing beside them.

Tam’s Burgers, established in the early 70s, is famous for its chili cheese fries, which Kendrick recommended in a 2012 interview. The owner, Spiro Vovos, told USA TODAY that the bacon cheeseburger and breakfast burrito are also popular menu items.

Reports indicate that Tam’s Burgers has experienced a 30 to 40% increase in sales. Vovos clarified that there has been a notable surge in foot traffic, with more social media content creators visiting the restaurant.

“We have a lot more people coming around the area, checking out the property, and paying homage to Compton and our restaurant,” Vovos said on Tuesday. “We did see an influx of sales during the first week when Kendrick was here.”

Vovos expressed gratitude for the Pulitzer prize-winning artist’s introduction of Tam’s Burgers to a global audience. His grandfather, who founded the restaurant, used to serve Lamar when he was growing up and trying to break into the music industry.

“It’s kind of surreal for us. We were very happy to hear that he wanted to film there. Since then, it’s been nothing but positive for us and the Compton community,” Vovos added. “We’re just so thankful and blessed.”

New Ho King −Toronto, Ontario

In Kendrick’s surgical diss track “Euphoria,” released in April in response to Drake’s “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” the lyrical architect raps in a Toronto accent: “I be at New Ho King eatin’ fried rice with a dip sauce and a blammy, crodie.”

New Ho King is a late-night Chinese joint in Toronto, Drake’s hometown, open until 4:30 a.m. on some days. The Canadian rapper also featured the restaurant in his “Family Matters” music video, his comeback to Lamar.

City News reported that after Kendrick’s shout-out, the restaurant saw a surge in customers and received numerous five-star reviews online. The eatery even named a fried rice dish after him, calling it the “Kendrick Lamar special.”
