Nylander Brothers Turning a Lot of Heads in Toronto With Electric Starts for Leafs, Marlies

The Nylander brothers are demonstrating that goal-scoring is a family trait with strong starts to their seasons with the Maple Leafs and Marlies.

It’s rare for siblings to reach the NHL, let alone play within the same organization, but both William and Alex Nylander are part of the Toronto Maple Leafs system, in the NHL and AHL, respectively. Even more unusual is for both brothers to lead their teams in goals early in the season, which they have achieved with their impressive performances.

Their scoring isn’t entirely unexpected; William Nylander has had consecutive 40-goal seasons and is aiming for a third, while also pursuing his first 100-point season.

Alex Nylander has proven he can score in bursts, especially during his time with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, where he tallied 11 goals in 23 games after being traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

William is in the first year of his lucrative eight-year contract averaging $11.5 million per season, and he is meeting the high expectations that come with it. Meanwhile, Alex is eager to land an NHL contract after signing a one-year AHL deal with the Maple Leafs. His strong start showcases his NHL-caliber goal-scoring ability, which would be a great asset for any team.

Whether it’s their family genetics or simply a hot start, the performance of both brothers is exciting. Many Maple Leafs fans, myself included, are hopeful for a future Nylander brother line, not just for the chemistry but for the dynamic scoring potential it could bring.
