Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar took to social media today to share that he successfully underwent thumb surgery, though he remains uncertain about playing next season. Pillar was signed by the Los Angeles Angels following Mike Trout’s season-ending injury, and the move turned out to be one of the most underrated of the season. Despite playing for a struggling Angels team, Pillar had an exceptional year, proving he still has plenty left in the tank.
Toward the end of the season, he dealt with a hand injury on his throwing arm, which led to his decision to have surgery early in the offseason. As of now, he remains unsure about his return next year.
Although Pillar previously hinted at retirement after reaching 10 years of MLB service time—a significant milestone that secures his fully vested pension—he has yet to make a final decision. Despite the uncertainty, Pillar’s performance this season demonstrated his ability to still contribute, particularly for a young team next year, though he’s unlikely to sign a big contract in the offseason.
