In one of the most eagerly awaited games of Week 7, the top-ranked Texas Longhorns faced off against the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners in the annual Red River Rivalry. This historic series, which began in 1900, features two of college football’s elite programs. Despite Oklahoma winning seven of the last ten matchups leading into Saturday, they were significant underdogs. Meanwhile, Texas entered the game with the No. 1 ranking in college football for the first time since 2009, motivated by a desire for revenge. In 2023, Oklahoma, led by current Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, defeated Texas in a nail-biter at the end of the game, and they weren’t shy about flaunting their victory. Star linebacker Danny Stutsman even created t-shirts that read, “Oklahoma only fears God, Texas fears Oklahoma,” which went viral at the time. After Texas’ dominant 34-3 win on Saturday, star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. responded with a powerful message of his own on social media, posting a torn Oklahoma Baker Mayfield jersey along with the caption, “Texas fears nobody.”

Although the reason behind Hill and Texas having a jersey of an Oklahoma quarterback who last played in college during the 2017 season is unclear, it is evident what they did with the jersey after their victory.

In addition to planting their team’s flag on it at midfield, they also fired their cannon through the jersey. Hill commented on the jersey incident and his social media post during the media interview after the game. “I just felt like it was the right thing for me to do,” Hill explained. “I saw all the things they posted last year, so I thought it was fitting to do something to get back at them.”

Hill had an impressive performance in Dallas, concluding the game with 11 total tackles, two sacks, and 3.5 tackles for loss. Texas remains the only undefeated team in the SEC and will face the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs next week in Austin, with ESPN’s “College GameDay” scheduled to be there. Meanwhile, the Sooners will host the South Carolina Gamecocks, who narrowly defeated No. 7 Alabama on Saturday.
