The Toronto Maple Leafs have further reduced their training camp roster, officially assigning 15 players to the Toronto Marlies. This move follows yesterday’s announcement of 21 roster cuts, including placing forward Nick Abruzzese on waivers.
Notable players sent to the Marlies include Nikita Grebenkin, Alex Nylander, and Alex Steeves. Despite impressing during camp, Grebenkin will continue to develop his skills in the AHL. Nylander, a former 8th overall pick in the 2016 draft, has had a lackluster camp and will need to demonstrate his abilities with the Marlies to earn a chance in the NHL.
The complete list of players assigned to the Marlies includes goaltender Artur Akhtyamov, defensemen Mikko Kokkonen, Nicholas Mattinen, Topi Niemela, Cade Webber, and Matteo Pietroniro, along with forwards Joseph Blandisi, Roni Hirvonen, Cedric Pare, Jacob Quillan, Logan Shaw, and Ryan Tverberg. These roster adjustments are crucial as the Leafs prepare for the upcoming season while the Marlies gear up for their camp opening this weekend.
