Trade Pitch Sees Maple Leafs Acquiring $21 Million Forward

The Toronto Maple Leafs will begin their training camp on September 18, but the team may still make some additions beforehand.

Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, one user suggested a trade where the Maple Leafs would acquire Lawson Crouse from Utah in exchange for Nick Robertson, Timothy Liljegren, and a 2027 second-round pick.

In this proposal, Toronto would bring in Crouse, a solid middle-six forward, for two players who have yet to consistently perform at the NHL level and a draft pick. Crouse, currently in the third year of his five-year, $21.5 million contract, was picked 11th overall in the 2015 NHL draft. Last season with Arizona, he tallied 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points across 82 games. Throughout his career, Crouse has appeared in 504 games, amassing 103 goals and 94 assists for 197 points.

In return, Toronto would send Robertson, who signed a one-year, $875,000 deal but has struggled with consistency, playing only 87 games over three years and notching 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists). Liljegren, on the other hand, has faced similar challenges, being a healthy scratch during critical moments, despite Toronto signing him to a two-year extension this offseason. Last season, he recorded 23 points (3 goals, 20 assists) in 55 games.

Maple Leafs GM on Robertson’s Extension

Despite requesting a trade earlier in the summer, Robertson retracted the request and signed his one-year, $875,000 deal. GM Brad Treliving expressed his positive relationship with Robertson, acknowledging the player’s desire to improve his role and development.

“We’ve had good conversations all summer,” Treliving said. “Nick is a great shooter, but to be a complete player, you need to develop all areas of your game. It’s a clean slate with a new coach and a fresh opportunity, and he’s excited to take it.”

Robertson was selected 53rd overall in the 2019 NHL draft by Toronto.

Utah Down to 6 Finalists for New Team Name

Utah, which relocated from Arizona, will be known as the Utah Hockey Club for the 2024-25 NHL season. The team is holding a fan vote to decide on a permanent name and has narrowed it down to six options:

– Utah Blizzard
– Utah HC (Hockey Club)
– Utah Mammoth
– Utah Outlaws
– Utah Venom
– Utah Yeti

For their inaugural 2024-25 season, the team will feature jerseys with “UTAH” on them while they finalize their identity, logo, and mascot for the 2025-26 season.
