Exclusive Report: Toronto Maple Leafs Lock Down Rising Star Defenseman with Multi-Year Deal valued over $5.55 million

The Maple Leafs have secured one of their promising young talents by signing defenseman Marshall Rifai to a multi-year contract. Rifai has agreed to a $1.55 million extension that will keep him with the team for the next two years, starting from the 2025-26 season. Previously set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, the 26-year-old will now have a cap hit of $775,000 per season under the new deal.

In his first NHL season last year, Rifai played two games for the Leafs without registering any points. However, he performed better with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, notching two goals and 19 points in 57 games.

Rifai, known for his strong defensive play, stands 6’1″ and weighs 207 lbs. His three NCAA seasons at Harvard showcased his solid skills, leading to his signing with the Maple Leafs organization in 2022. He spent time with both the NHL team and their AHL affiliate, the Marlies. Rifai made his NHL debut during the 2022-23 season and has proven to be a valuable asset due to his consistent defensive presence and character on the ice.
