Djurgarden’s sporting director, Bosse Andersson, has confirmed that goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is on his way to Derby County after an emotional farewell to the Swedish club. Zetterstrom played a key role in Djurgarden’s 3-1 victory over Ilves in the Europa Conference League qualifying round and was visibly moved at the final whistle, as he prepares to join Derby.

Derby County has agreed to a £1.4 million deal for the 6ft 6in goalkeeper, which concludes their long search for a new shot-stopper—a move that will significantly boost head coach Paul Warne’s squad ahead of their upcoming clash against Middlesbrough.

  1. Andersson comment on the transfer, stating, “We’ve had lengthy discussions with Derby and agreed to make the move after our European campaign progressed far enough. With Jacob Rinne now in place, we feel confident moving forward. Now Zetterstrom travels over, and if everything goes well, he might make his debut against Middlesbrough on Saturday. He’s done fantastically well throughout the negotiations and is close to my heart—it’s great to see him get this opportunity.”

Reflecting on his departure, Zetterstrom said, “It was special, full of emotions, but that’s expected when you’ve enjoyed yourself as much as I have here. It’s been a fantastic year at both senior and junior levels. This club is incredibly close to my heart. There were a lot of tears, but I’m excited about the new adventures ahead. Playing English football has always been a dream of mine, and taking this step feels absolutely incredible.”
