“Breaking News: Shane Doan’s Son Set to Sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs in High-Stakes Deal

A new trade rumor is circulating involving the Toronto Maple Leafs and Utah Hockey Club, suggesting a possible exchange of young forwards.

According to NHL Trade Rumors, the Leafs and the Utah Hockey Club are reportedly considering swapping Nick Robertson for Josh Doan. This potential trade could be significant as Doan is linked to the franchise his father spent his entire career with. Although Doan is viewed as having a lower ceiling compared to Robertson, who still shows top-six potential, the decision may hinge on whether the Leafs are willing to give up a player with strong family ties to the organization.

Robertson’s high-scoring potential could be a major asset that Toronto might regret losing. On the other hand, Doan’s physicality and intangibles might be exactly what the Leafs need. Balancing potential with immediate impact will be a crucial factor for Toronto’s front office.

It’s worth noting that Robertson is reportedly unhappy with his current situation and has requested a trade, though no move has materialized yet. The 22-year-old has played 87 NHL games, with 56 coming last season, and scored 14 goals and 27 points, demonstrating his potential.

Robertson has gradually increased his NHL appearances over the past four seasons, and it’s likely he’ll play a full 82-game season next year. If his situation remains unchanged, a mid-season or summer trade could be on the horizon, possibly to Utah.

In contrast, Doan has only played 11 NHL games, all last season, scoring 9 points including 5 goals. His future production is uncertain. At the AHL level with the Tucson Roadrunners, he posted 26 goals and 46 points in 62 games. Like Robertson, he was a second-round pick, selected 37th overall by the Coyotes in 2021.
