Ianis Hagi’s days at Rangers could be numbered.
Unfortunately, it seems the Romanian playmaker might not remain at Rangers much longer, with his outspoken agent, Giovanni Becali, suggesting Hagi might not return.
The 25-year-old is still under contract until 2026, and when he signed that deal, it appeared he intended to stay at Ibrox for the long term:
“The history that this club has pushes you every single day on the pitch and off the pitch to be a better player and a better person.
“I like to think I have left something behind me and I have given really good memories to the fans, but I still feel like I haven’t done everything that I want. I still have a lot of things to show and give to this amazing group of people in Rangers as well as the fans. I just can’t wait until I’m back.”
The last 12-months have obviously left a sour taste in Hagi’s mouth though and he continues to be linked with a move to the country of his birth – Turkey.
Becali confirmed that there is plenty of interest in his client:
“Ianis has one year left on his contract with Glasgow Rangers. I don’t know when he will, and if he will show up [for pre-season]. He’s about to leave.
“I’m also hearing left and right, that several teams would like him. Rangers may want to get something back on him. Ianis does not have a small salary with them. We’ll see, it’s time.”
Questions about Rangers’ creativity that Philippe Clement needs to answer
Including Hagi, the future of all senior number 10s at Rangers is uncertain.
Tom Lawrence has been linked with a move back to England, Todd Cantwell has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, and Sam Lammers is not even training with the first team, as far as we know.
Bought for £3 million, Rangers should expect to turn a profit on Hagi, who has two years left on his current deal, contrary to what Becali claims.
A player who performs well in a major tournament should command a decent transfer fee, especially one with the Hagi family name.
