JUST IN: Rangers Plot Move for £7million Championship Star

SPFL giants Rangers have rekindled their interest in Plymouth Argyle’s standout forward, Morgan Whittaker. Rangers had an initial bid rejected by Wayne Rooney’s side, which could have reached up to £7 million. Despite this setback, the Scottish club is expected to make a higher offer for the winger.

The 23-year-old is in his second stint at Argyle, having initially joined on loan in 2022 and then returned permanently in 2023 from Swansea City. Over 81 appearances, he has scored 29 goals and provided 16 assists, including 19 goals in the Championship last season. He has also played for Derby County and Lincoln City, where he scored five goals in 20 appearances during the latter half of the 21/22 season.

Whittaker, who is reportedly eager to move to Scotland, has had a complicated history with Rooney, who previously managed him at Derby County before selling him to Swansea City for a reported £700k. Rooney’s recent appointment at Argyle may complicate matters, as he is keen to retain his key player, but Whittaker’s potential dissatisfaction could be a concern.

Rangers’ continued pursuit and substantial offers indicate their serious interest, suggesting that a deal could be imminent. For Argyle, selling Whittaker quickly would allow them to find a suitable replacement ahead of the new season, particularly if the player is unhappy under Rooney’s management.
