Birmingham City had shown interest in striker Sinclair Armstrong before his imminent move to Bristol City, according to reports. Armstrong, who is leaving Queens Park Rangers for Ashton Gate this summer, attracted attention from several clubs, including Stoke City, Sunderland, and Birmingham City.
The 21-year-old Irish international, born in Dublin, joined QPR from Shamrock Rovers in 2020. He has gained considerable experience playing in the Championship over the past couple of years, making 41 appearances in all competitions last season and scoring four goals. His performances earned him his first senior international cap in September of last year.
Bristol City is reportedly spending around £2 million to secure Armstrong from Loftus Road and bring him to the West Country. Stoke City was also interested in signing the centre forward.
According to BristolLive, Birmingham City showed late interest in competing with Bristol City for Armstrong’s signature. However, Armstrong is now set to join Bristol City, with a medical scheduled for today (Thursday). He will be their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of fellow forward Fally Mayulu and Japanese winger Yu Hirakawa.
Meanwhile, Birmingham City continues to transform their squad. Goalkeepers Ryan Allsop and Bailey Peacock-Farrell will compete for the starting position, while left-back Alex Cochrane has been signed, and winger Emil Hansson and striker Alfie May have joined the team. Chris Davies has emphasized that more signings are expected as they continue to strengthen the squad.
