The Melbourne Storm have granted assistant coach Jason Ryles an early release. Ryles, a former player turned long-time assistant coach at both the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm, has been confirmed as the head coach of the Parramatta Eels starting in 2025. This marks his first head coaching role, after being previously linked to the St George Illawarra Dragons coaching position last year, which ultimately went to Shane Flanagan.

Instead of potentially succeeding Craig Bellamy as head coach at the Storm in the future, Ryles will now prepare for his role at the Eels immediately upon his release from Melbourne. The Storm announced that Ryles will conclude his duties with the club by the end of the week.

Melbourne Storm CEO Justin Rodski expressed congratulations to Ryles on his new appointment, emphasizing that the early release was mutually beneficial given the significance of the opportunity for Ryles. Rodski acknowledged Ryles’ positive impact during his brief return to the club for the 2024 season, praising him as both a quality individual and coach. The Storm, currently leading the NRL ladder and contending for the minor premiership, thanked Ryles for his contributions and extended best wishes to him, his wife Alana, and their family for the future.
