QPR faces a tough challenge in convincing Troyes striker Ike Ugbo to choose their project in London over Sheffield Wednesday this summer, according to transfer specialist Darren Witcoop. The 25-year-old has reportedly already decided on his preferred destination for next season, with Sheffield Wednesday and QPR among the interested clubs, along with Stoke City and Birmingham City from League One.

Ugbo, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and impressed with seven goals in 18 Championship appearances, played a significant role in their successful bid to avoid relegation under manager Danny Rohl.

Given his performance, it’s no surprise that Ugbo has attracted interest this summer. QPR, in particular, are keen on bolstering their attacking options following recent developments, including Sinclair Armstrong’s potential £2.5 million move to either Bristol City or Stoke City, and interest in Lyndon Dykes from Blackburn Rovers. Manager Marti Cifuentes currently has Michael Frey in the squad but the 29-year-old only managed one goal since joining in January.

According to Darren Witcoop on social media platform X on Monday night, Ike Ugbo has expressed a strong desire to return to Sheffield Wednesday. However, a deal with his current French club Troyes is not imminent. Stoke City, QPR, and Birmingham City are also interested in the Canadian striker.

The potential stumbling block for Sheffield Wednesday appears to be Troyes’ asking price, which could be challenging for the Owls to meet. This situation might open the door for a Championship rival who is in a better financial position to pursue the goal scorer. Ike Ugbo is valued at £2.4 million according to Transfermarkt, a football database.
