Blue Jays set to target a $63 million pitcher to salvage their offseason.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in desperate need of a move to salvage a lackluster offseason, and signing a pitcher with World Series experience could be the solution. Clutchpoints’ Russell Steinberg suggests that Jack Flaherty would be an ideal addition to their roster.

Flaherty, a veteran of eight MLB seasons, has a career record of 55-41 with a 3.63 ERA, having played for four different teams since debuting with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017. After being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in July from the Detroit Tigers, Flaherty finished the regular season strong, posting a 6-2 record with a 3.58 ERA. He also made five postseason starts, including two appearances in the 2024 World Series, where he allowed two earned runs over 5.1 innings in Game 1 but struggled in Game 5.

Spotrac estimates Flaherty’s market value at a three-year, $63 million contract. His strong 2024 campaign, which saw him reach 150 innings for the first time since 2019, helped erase doubts stemming from a rough 2023 season with the Cardinals and Orioles.

If the Blue Jays land Flaherty, he could bolster a rotation that already includes Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Bowden Francis, and Chris Bassitt, providing depth and allowing Yariel Rodriguez to transition back to a swingman role.
