On the latest episode of their podcast, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was asked by his brother, Saints WR Equanimous St. Brown, whether he’d prefer to face the Vikings or the Packers in the playoffs. Amon-Ra chose the Vikings.
“We haven’t played the Vikings a second time yet, but I would probably say the Vikings,” Amon-Ra explained.
This was an intriguing choice, given that one team holds an 11-2 record and has a win over the other, who is 9-4. However, St. Brown also expressed his reluctance to face either team for a third time.
“I don’t wanna play these dudes in the playoffs,” he said. “Playing a team three times in a season just sounds absurd. Three times in one season? That’s like a series. That’s like some NBA stuff… Playing a division team in the playoffs, it gets crazy. You don’t know what’s gonna happen.”
With all three teams headed to the playoffs, a third meeting between NFC North rivals in the divisional round or conference title game is a real possibility. Currently, the 12-1 Lions hold the top seed, the Vikings are at the 5, and the Packers are in the 6 spot.
The Lions are 3-0 against the other top NFC North teams this season, with two wins over the Packers — 24-14 in Week 9 and 34-31 last Thursday. They narrowly defeated the Vikings 31-29 in Week 7, thanks to a late Jake Bates field goal. The two teams will meet again in Detroit to close out the regular season.
The Vikings edged out the Packers 31-29 in Week 4 after nearly losing a 28-0 first-half lead. They’ll host Green Bay in Week 17.
One factor in St. Brown’s preference for the Vikings could be his strong recent performances against them. He has topped 100 yards and scored a touchdown in each of his last three games against Minnesota. Since 2021, the Lions are 5-2 against the Vikings, with St. Brown recording 56 receptions for 654 yards and 4 touchdowns in those seven games.
