The competition for Juan Soto in free agency is intensifying.
Sources have indicated that the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Toronto Blue Jays have all made offers exceeding $600 million for Soto, while the New York Yankees’ bid is around $550 million, according to Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media.
The four-time All-Star is seeking a contract without deferrals, a source told Miller. In contrast, Shohei Ohtani’s historic deal included $680 million in deferred money.
At 26, Soto is expected to surpass Ohtani’s $46 million average annual value, according to Jack Curry of YES Network.
There is widespread speculation among bidders that the Blue Jays may come in with the highest offer.
The 2024 AL MVP finalist is expected to decide where he wants to play within the next 10 days, with sources telling MLB Network’s Jon Morosi that the winter meetings, which begin next Monday, could be a pivotal time.
Last season, Soto hit a career-high 41 home runs with 109 RBIs and a .989 OPS across 157 games. In the playoffs, he posted a .327/.469/.633 line with four home runs and nine RBIs, helping the Yankees make their first World Series appearance in 15 years.
