Despite New York Giants co-owner and team president John Mara advocating for patience, there’s growing speculation that the team could make significant changes. Back in October, Mara expressed confidence in general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, stating that he didn’t expect any firings at the end of the season.

However, the situation has drastically shifted since then. The Giants are now widely regarded as the worst team in the NFL, and their locker room appears to be in turmoil. As a result, New York may be considering a search for a new general manager and head coach this offseason. If that occurs, they could target top executives from one of the league’s best teams to help rebuild from the ground up.

**Giants Could Eye Lions’ Assistant GM for Key Leadership Role**

The Detroit Lions have emerged as one of the NFL’s top teams, dominating the NFC in back-to-back seasons. The coaching trio of head coach Dan Campbell, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has turned the Lions into serious contenders. Equally impressive has been their front office.

Under the leadership of general manager and executive vice president Brad Holmes, the Lions’ roster has undergone a remarkable transformation, loaded with talent and bolstered through strategic draft picks, free agency, and trades. Assisting Holmes in this success is assistant general manager Ray Agnew, a key figure who could catch the Giants’ eye.

Ray Agnew is considered one of the top general manager candidates for NFL teams to target in 2025. If the Giants decide to part ways with general manager Joe Schoen and embark on a front-office overhaul, Agnew could be the perfect fit. Since joining the Lions in 2021, Agnew has been a key figure in the team’s roster transformation.

As detailed on the Lions’ team website, Agnew works closely with general manager Brad Holmes, assisting and consulting on all aspects of the player personnel department. His pivotal role in shaping Detroit’s stacked roster makes him an ideal candidate for a GM position.

“Ray Agnew enters his fourth season with the Lions as assistant general manager after joining the team in 2021. Agnew assists and consults Executive Vice President and General Manager Brad Holmes with all functions of the player personnel department. He continues to be a vital asset in helping Holmes with roster construction and team-building. His influence was crucial in shaping the 2023 roster, which propelled the Lions to a 12-5 record.”

When it comes to general manager candidates, it’s hard to find an assistant more qualified or deserving of a shot than Agnew. If the Giants are looking for an executive capable of rebuilding their roster and turning around the talent on their team, Agnew would be the perfect choice for the job.
