The Toronto Blue Jays, unable to win a World Series with their current core of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, might consider trading one of their stars before they reach free agency.

On MLB Network’s *Hot Stove*, Anthony Castrovince suggested a trade in which the Blue Jays send Guerrero and Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for first baseman Michael Busch, outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger, and right-handed pitcher Cade Horton.

Castrovince argued that the Blue Jays may need to part ways with their core, saying, “It really hasn’t worked with that core. Let’s blow it up.” He also noted that this trade would bring back long-term assets like Busch and Horton, while also adding Bellinger, who could fill a versatile role in the lineup.

Guerrero, entering the final year of his contract, could potentially leave if the Blue Jays don’t contend for a championship soon. Spotrac projects that he could sign a 10-year, $259 million deal when he hits free agency. Gausman, meanwhile, won’t be a free agent until 2026.

Busch, who hit .248 with 21 home runs in his rookie season, would provide the Blue Jays with another young hitter. Horton, ranked as the Cubs’ No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline, adds more pitching depth to the farm system. The key player coming back for the Blue Jays would be Bellinger, who can play both first base and the outfield. Bellinger signed a three-year, $80 million deal with player options after the first two seasons.

The Cubs are reportedly looking to move Bellinger, as his contract could be limiting their flexibility in future moves. However, it’s unlikely they would find a trade partner willing to absorb the entirety of his deal.
