The Toronto Blue Jays have established themselves as one of the league’s top defensive teams in recent years, winning the Rawlings American League Team Gold Glove Award in back-to-back seasons. They’ve also had several players earn individual Gold Glove nominations, with five Blue Jays players being finalists in 2023, leading to three winners. In 2024, Ernie Clement and Daulton Varsho were nominated once again, with Varsho ultimately claiming his first-ever Gold Glove after years of stellar defensive play.
But it wasn’t just the major league roster that earned defensive recognition. In the minor leagues, Blue Jays prospect Dasan Brown was awarded a Minor League Gold Glove for his exceptional play in the outfield. The 23-year-old Brown, the No. 23 prospect in the Jays’ system, had an outstanding defensive season, committing just one error in 232 chances for a remarkable .996 fielding percentage. He also registered six outfield assists across 100 games between High-A and Double-A, demonstrating his versatility by playing all three outfield positions, with most of his time spent in center field.
Brown’s defensive prowess was a standout feature of his 2024 campaign, though he also had a solid offensive showing, batting .246 with a .723 OPS, 63 runs, 22 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 41 RBIs, and 35 stolen bases in 106 games. His well-rounded performance has raised hopes that he could be a future defensive asset for the Blue Jays, potentially becoming a key player like Kevin Kiermaier as the team continues to build a defensive powerhouse for years to come.
