Among the many intriguing MLB free agents this offseason, none shine brighter than four-time All-Star Juan Soto. Renowned for his exceptional plate discipline and immense power—averaging 38 home runs over the last two seasons—Soto is expected to command a contract exceeding $500 million.

Unsurprisingly, the largest market teams are leading the chase for Soto. While the New York Yankees remain a strong contender to retain their star, other heavyweights like the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets are also in the mix. Even smaller-market teams like the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays have entered the fray for this transcendent talent.

Most recently, the New York Mets had their meeting with Soto, and reports suggest it was a resounding success.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Soto met with Mets owner Steve Cohen and several high-ranking club officials on Saturday in Orange County, California. Described as a “big production” meeting, it was reportedly “extremely well-received” and “very detailed.”

Held at a secretive location near Newport Beach, California, the meetings have been shrouded in mystery, but insiders indicate the Mets are “hopeful” and perhaps even optimistic about their chances of landing the offseason’s top free agent. Mets baseball president David Stearns and manager Carlos Mendoza also participated, reportedly leaving a positive impression.

While it’s unclear if the Mets or any other teams have made formal contract offers to Soto, their proactive approach has placed them firmly in contention. The Yankees are scheduled to meet with Soto on Monday, ensuring the competition for his signature will only intensify.
