Blue Jays Eye Free Agent Willy Adames to Bolster Roster

The Toronto Blue Jays, aiming to revamp their roster after finishing last in the division last season, are reportedly pursuing free agent shortstop Willy Adames. With the offseason in full swing, many believe the Blue Jays are among the frontrunners to land the $150 million defensive standout.

Rumors of Adames heading to Toronto initially gained traction when speculation arose about a potential Bo Bichette trade. However, General Manager Ross Atkins has since stated that Bichette is not on the trading block, suggesting the team plans to keep him.

Could Bichette and Adames Share the Infield?

Despite plans to retain Bichette, MLB insiders suggest that signing Adames remains a possibility, potentially leading to a positional shift for one of the players. Adames, known for his stellar defense, could transition to second or third base, creating an elite infield alongside Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Alternatively, the Blue Jays could reconsider Bichette’s long-term future. Some experts speculate that if the team locks Adames into a $150+ million deal, Bichette could eventually find himself back on the trade block to shake up the roster further.

Competition for Adames

While Adames would be a significant addition to Toronto’s lineup, the Blue Jays face stiff competition from other teams, including the New York Mets, who are also pursuing the talented shortstop.

Regardless of whether Bichette stays at shortstop or moves positions, signing Adames would bring additional power and versatility to the Blue Jays’ infield, making it a move worth considering this offseason.
