Vladimir Guerrero Jr. capped off an outstanding 2024 season with another accolade, earning a spot on the All-MLB First Team as the league’s top first baseman. The Toronto Blue Jays star edged out Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper, who was named to the Second Team.

The All-MLB Teams, introduced in 2019, are determined by a combination of fan voting and input from a panel of media, broadcasters, former players, and other league officials. Guerrero previously made the First Team in 2021, the same year he finished second in AL MVP voting and claimed his first Silver Slugger. He earned his second Silver Slugger earlier this week and awaits his final placement in the 2024 MVP race, despite not being a top-three finalist.

In 2024, the 25-year-old delivered a stellar performance, hitting .323 with 30 home runs, 44 doubles, 103 RBIs, a .940 OPS, and a 6.2 WAR. He also secured his fourth consecutive All-Star selection. After a slow start to the season, batting .231 with a .675 OPS by May 4, Guerrero caught fire, hitting .348 with a 1.011 OPS the rest of the way. Over that span, his production projected to an impressive 219 hits, 35 home runs, 49 doubles, and 119 RBIs over a full season.

Guerrero’s durability continues to be a cornerstone for Toronto, as he played in 159 of the team’s 162 games. Since 2020, he has missed just 12 games.

With Guerrero heading into the final year of his contract, the Blue Jays are expected to prioritize an extension to secure their franchise cornerstone. Without an agreement, Guerrero could be traded or reach free agency next offseason. Born in Canada during his father’s time with the Montreal Expos, Guerrero has spent his entire professional career with the Blue Jays’ organization.
