Oilers’ Wishlist Sparks Trade Discussions for Ex-Maple Leafs Defenseman

Jeff Marek appeared on *Oilers Nation Everyday* Thursday to discuss his new role with The Nation Network and share insights on trade rumors surrounding the Edmonton Oilers. While acknowledging the team’s slow start to the season, Marek emphasized that the Oilers aren’t panicking. However, he did mention that the team has a few priorities on their trade wish list, including adding speed up front and acquiring a top-four, right-handed defenseman.

Marek was asked about the mood in the locker room and reassured listeners that players aren’t “freaking out.” Still, there is recognition that improvements are needed, particularly in terms of speed, youth, and consistency on the blue line.

He mentioned that whenever he discusses the need for a right-shot defenseman, it always leads to a long list of potential candidates, as every team is seeking one. He specifically pointed out that for the Edmonton Oilers, a top-four right-shot defenseman is definitely a key item on their wish list.

Regarding Timothy Liljegren, Marek said, “I’m not sure if it was more than just some internal discussions about him, but there were talks about the San Jose Sharks defenseman.” He speculated that salary could have been a potential obstacle in making a deal.

As for the Oilers’ situation, it’s clear they’re looking to improve their performance, especially in terms of goal-scoring and limiting goals against. While their play isn’t terrible, the results haven’t been as expected.
