Sevilla manager García Pimienta highlighted Kelechi Iheanacho’s missed open-goal chance as a key turning point in his team’s 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad on Sunday, according to *Soccernet.ng*.

Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City this summer, came on in the 80th minute with the team already trailing by two goals. The Nigerian forward nearly pulled one back for Sevilla when he intercepted a poor back pass and rounded the Sociedad goalkeeper. However, with the net wide open, Iheanacho’s shot agonizingly drifted past the goal.

Reflecting on the match, Pimienta admitted that Real Sociedad were the better team but expressed frustration over Iheanacho’s missed opportunity. “We had them, but we couldn’t finish. Above all, Kelechi’s was clear,” Pimienta said, according to *Elgoldigital*. “We have no choice but to keep trusting.”

In addition to Iheanacho’s miss, Pimienta was visibly frustrated with Marcao, whose mistake led to Sociedad’s second goal. A careless tackle from the defender inside the box resulted in a penalty, which Mikel Oyarzabal converted in the 68th minute, sealing the win for Sociedad.

Pimienta didn’t shy away from criticizing Marcao’s error, saying, “It was a clear mistake. Putting his arm out in that situation makes no sense. A player of his experience should not make that kind of mistake.”

Despite the league struggles, Iheanacho showed his potential with two goals in Sevilla’s 3-0 Copa del Rey win over Las Rozas. However, he is still searching for his first La Liga goal as Sevilla looks to turn their season around in upcoming matches.
