Former Toronto Blue Jays prospect Cavan Biggio is once again testing free agency. Atlanta Braves reporter David O’Brien confirmed that Biggio has opted to explore the open market.

Biggio joined the Braves in a September trade, playing four games and going 1-for-5. Previously designated for assignment by Toronto, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he batted just .192 across 30 games. Despite limited playing time, Biggio may still receive a World Series ring from his Dodgers stint. He also spent time in the San Francisco Giants’ minor league system before arriving in Atlanta.

This season, Biggio recorded five homers, 19 RBIs, and two stolen bases. The son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, Cavan was a fifth-round draft pick by the Blue Jays in 2016. He debuted in 2019, envisioned as part of Toronto’s promising young core with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.

While the Blue Jays reached the playoffs in 2020, 2022, and 2023, Biggio struggled to secure a regular role. He hit 16 homers in his rookie year but hasn’t exceeded nine since. Now 29, Biggio’s former prospect reputation may secure him another opportunity this offseason, likely on a minor league deal.
