Collingwood has reaffirmed its support for its uncontracted players by re-signing four and promising to re-draft two who have been delisted.
Ash Johnson and Oleg Markov have both been let go by the club, but they will be re-selected as rookies following the upcoming drafts.
The other four uncontracted players—Charlie Dean, Ned Long, Reef McInnes, and Lachie Sullivan—have all signed one-year deals for next season.
In trade and draft news, Johnson’s retention comes as a bit of a surprise, given that Magpies coach Craig McRae only fielded him in three matches in 2024, despite the team needing key forwards.
Collingwood is also expected to sign forward Tim Membrey, who was recently delisted by St Kilda.
“We are pleased to retain Charlie, Ned, Reef, and Lachie for another season,” said Justin Leppitsch, Collingwood’s Head of Football Strategy, Innovation, and List Management.
“Charlie and Reef have faced their own injury challenges, but their resilience has allowed them to seamlessly reintegrate into our system.
“Since joining us, Ned and Lachie have displayed great determination to understand our game plan and have integrated well into the team.
“All four players have contributed positively to both our AFL and VFL programs, and we look forward to seeing them elevate their game next year.
“We’ve made the tough decision regarding Ash and Oleg for 2025, but we are committed to re-listing them as rookies in the upcoming draft in November.”
