The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to be active in the trade market as the deadline approaches, with one proposal suggesting they acquire a defenseman.
Using the PuckGM tool from PuckPedia, a user suggested the Maple Leafs could trade for Matt Dumba from the Dallas Stars.
In this proposed deal, the Maple Leafs would receive:
– Matt Dumba
– A 2025 fourth-round pick from Winnipeg
In exchange, the Stars would get:
– Timothy Liljegren
– Nick Robertson
This trade seems logical, as Toronto would gain an experienced defenseman to bolster their current roster, while Dallas would bring in two young players who have lost favor in Toronto.
Dumba, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with Dallas in the offseason, could enhance Toronto’s third pairing with his physicality and offensive skills. Over his NHL career, he has played 679 games, recording 83 goals and 165 assists for a total of 248 points.
For Dallas, acquiring Liljegren and Robertson would be beneficial, as both have been healthy scratches for Toronto this season. Liljegren recently signed a two-year, $6 million extension and could take Dumba’s spot in the Stars’ lineup, adding youth. Meanwhile, Robertson would have the chance to play alongside his brother, Jason, one of the Stars’ top players.
