 ADELAIDE CROWS

Adelaide was mostly proactive throughout the trade period until they hit a snag in negotiations for James Peatling. The Giants and Crows continue to negotiate over Peatling, with Adelaide making two offers: one involving two future third-round picks, and another including future second and third-rounders, with a second-rounder coming back. The Giants, however, are holding firm on wanting just a future second. It’s expected this deal will be completed before the deadline. Meanwhile, Isaac Cumming and Alex Neal-Bullen have been Adelaide players for over a week, with the Crows trading Pick 28 for Neal-Bullen. Elliott Himmelberg left for Gold Coast in free agency, but Adelaide did not receive compensation.

 BRISBANE LIONS

The Lions traded speedy onballer Harry Sharp to Melbourne on the second-to-last day of the trade period after initially rejecting the Demons’ offer of Pick 49. The final deal involved an exchange of future third-round picks. Brisbane has also been active in pick swaps, acquiring Pick 27 from St Kilda and trading Pick 20 to Richmond in exchange for four second and third-round picks to stockpile points for father-son Levi Ashcroft and academy player Sam Marshall. Deven Robertson may be heading to West Coast, likely for a late pick this year or next. Essendon’s interest in utility Jaxon Prior has cooled, but he could join them as a delisted free agent. Looking forward, the Lions are focused on finding support for Eric Hipwood and Logan Morris after deciding not to pursue big-name forwards or uncontracted St Kilda veteran Tim Membrey.

 CARLTON

Speculation linking Dan Houston to Carlton ended on Tuesday, with the Magpies securing his services. Carlton had acquired Pick 14 from Hawthorn in exchange for future picks but didn’t plan to package it for Houston. Instead, they pulled off a three-way trade with West Coast and Richmond, securing Pick 3 and bidding farewell to small forward Matt Owies, who joined the Eagles on a three-year deal. Carlton also swapped picks with Brisbane, trading Picks 34 and 66 for 73 and a future second-rounder. Veteran defender Nick Haynes joined Carlton through free agency, and Denver Grainger-Barras reportedly met with the club. The Blues have received late interest from the Western Bulldogs in Matt Kennedy, and St Kilda in Brodie Kemp, but no deals have been finalized.

 COLLINGWOOD

Collingwood’s trade period has been busy, highlighted by the acquisition of Dan Houston in a three-club deal that also saw them trade away Joe Richards and John Noble. While they gave up their 2025 first-rounder and this year’s Pick 36, Collingwood still feels they emerged as winners. Despite showing interest in Bailey Humphrey earlier, that trade now seems unlikely. The Magpies are also keeping tabs on free agents Tim Membrey, Adam Tomlinson, and Jack Hayes. Earlier, they signed GWS utility Harry Perryman on the first day of free agency.

 ESSENDON

Essendon has been working on a trade to send Jake Stringer to GWS, with the Giants likely to part with Pick 53 or 56. The Bombers hope for a better deal by covering part of Stringer’s salary. Essendon traded Pick 9 to Melbourne for a set of 2024 picks and a first-rounder next year. Despite interest from Collingwood, Tim Membrey may also be on Essendon’s radar as a delisted free agent. The Bombers lost out on GWS utility Conor Stone, who signed a two-year extension, and it appears Dylan Shiel will remain at the club in 2025.

 FREMANTLE

Richmond star Shai Bolton was Fremantle’s top target, and they succeeded in securing him by trading Picks 10 and 18. Richmond initially wanted 10 and 11 but eventually agreed to send Bolton and Pick 14 in exchange for all three of Fremantle’s first-rounders. Despite sliding back three picks, Fremantle considers the deal a win given Bolton’s match-winning potential and goal-scoring consistency.

 GEELONG

Geelong’s focus remains on completing the Bailey Smith trade, though it has been a tough negotiation. Geelong is firm on offering Pick 17, but as it has dropped in value, the Bulldogs want an extra pick included. Rumors of a Clayton Oliver trade have died down, and former Carlton forward Jack Martin will join Geelong as a delisted free agent.

 GOLD COAST SUNS

As part of a massive three-club deal with Collingwood and Port Adelaide, the Suns acquired John Noble and future first-round picks from the Power and Magpies while parting with Jack Lukosius and Rory Atkins. On deadline day, they traded for Richmond’s Daniel Rioli, sending Pick 6 and a later selection in the 40s. This move ensures the Suns can match a bid for academy prospect Leo Lombard. Early in free agency, they signed Adelaide’s Elliott Himmelberg.

 GWS GIANTS

GWS has been working to complete a trade for Essendon’s Jake Stringer, likely involving Picks 53 or 56, but they hope for a better pick if they take on some of his salary. They’re also negotiating with Adelaide for James Peatling, with discussions dragging on. Although interest in GWS utility Conor Stone didn’t materialize into a trade, the Giants remain well-positioned in the draft with multiple first-round picks. The Giants are also reportedly considering a move up the draft order, and have previously been linked with Saint Ben Paton.

 HAWTHORN

Hawthorn made waves by trading Pick 14 to Carlton instead of West Coast, complicating a potential deal for defender Tom Barrass. The Hawks have offered a future first and second-round pick, but the Eagles are asking for two future first-rounders. Despite interest from Essendon, Finn Maginness is staying with Hawthorn, while the club already secured Josh Battle in free agency.

 MELBOURNE

Melbourne landed Brisbane’s Harry Sharp late on Tuesday, trading Pick 49 and swapping future third-round picks to finalize the deal. The club has also strengthened its draft position by acquiring Pick 9. A deal for GWS forward Wade Derksen seems unlikely, though they tried various scenarios. On day one of free agency, Melbourne traded Alex Neal-Bullen to Adelaide for Pick 28 and signed veteran ruckman Tom Campbell.

 NORTH MELBOURNE

North Melbourne’s negotiations for Sydney’s Luke Parker are ongoing, with the Swans rejecting an initial offer of Pick 62. Pick 44 could be the compromise needed to finalize the deal. A pursuit of Western Bulldogs’ Caleb Daniel seems less likely, as the Dogs have rejected offers. North Melbourne secured Jack Darling from West Coast on the trade period’s opening day.

 PORT ADELAIDE

Port Adelaide saw Dan Houston depart for Collingwood after months of speculation. In return, they welcomed Suns duo Jack Lukosius and Rory Atkins, as well as Joe Richards from Collingwood. They also acquired several draft picks, though some fans are frustrated by the deal given the club’s premiership window.
