The Toronto Maple Leafs placed a lot of trust in the 26-year-old this summer, planning for him to be the 1A alongside Anthony Stolarz as the 1B. Unfortunately, just before the season opener, Woll suffered a lower-body injury, landing him on the injured reserve to start the season.

The Leafs kicked off their campaign with three games in four days, but their schedule has since eased with just two home games this week. Earlier today, head coach Craig Berube shared positive news about Woll, stating that not only is he feeling better, but he was also on the ice ahead of practice and should rejoin team sessions soon.

Woll’s exact return timeline remains uncertain, but with a light schedule, he has a chance to get more practice time and possibly be ready by the weekend. If the team decides to be cautious, they could wait until next week for his return.

In the meantime, Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby have done a solid job in his absence, so there’s no immediate rush to activate Woll, who will be eligible to come off the IR on Thursday. Once he’s back, the Leafs are expected to split goaltending duties relatively evenly between Woll and Stolarz, until one proves capable of handling a heavier workload.
