The Montreal Canadiens have enhanced their defensive lineup by signing right-handed defenseman Gustav Lindström to a one-year, two-way contract. Announced on Wednesday, this move aims to add veteran depth to the organization.

Lindström is set to provide crucial support in the wake of David Reinbacher’s injury and will initially be placed on waivers to join the Laval Rocket in the American Hockey League (AHL). The 25-year-old had a productive 2023-24 season, playing 46 games split between the Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks. He recorded 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) and finished with a plus-12 rating. Lindström spent 14 games with the Canadiens before being claimed by the Ducks, along with four appearances for the Laval Rocket.

With the current defensive roster lacking depth—only Logan Mailloux and Josh Jacobs are healthy right-handed options—the addition of Lindström is timely. The Laval Rocket are gearing up to kick off their season on Friday, facing two away games before returning for their home opener on October 18.
