In the offseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Max Pacioretty to a professional tryout (PTO), sparking considerable speculation about his chances of securing a spot on the roster.
After a strong preseason performance, the Maple Leafs have signed Max Pacioretty to a contract. Additionally, it has been announced that Steven Lorentz will also receive a contract after coming off a Stanley Cup-winning season with the Florida Panthers. While Lorentz didn’t play a significant role in that success, he still has a championship ring to show for it.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet noted that Pacioretty’s contract is particularly intriguing. He will earn over $800K this season, with potential games played bonuses that could exceed $600K. Notably, these bonuses will not impact this year’s salary cap but will count against next season’s cap instead.
The Maple Leafs are clearly committed to assembling the best possible roster while staying under the salary cap. Achieving that balance won’t be easy, but for now, they appear to be in a good position.
