Maple Leafs sign veteran forwards, extend young defenseman

The Maple Leafs announced on Monday that they have signed forwards Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz to one-year contracts following their participation in training camp on professional tryouts. Additionally, they have extended defenseman Cade Webber, a pending restricted free agent, with a two-year deal that will keep him under contract until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Pacioretty’s contract is a 35+ deal with a salary cap hit of $873,770, including up to $626,230 in performance bonuses, as reported by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli. He will earn half of the bonuses if he plays in 10 games this season and will receive the full amount if he plays in 35 games. The total potential value of his contract could reach $1.5 million. Lorentz’s contract is a straightforward one-way deal at the league minimum of $775,000, according to Seravalli. Webber’s extension has an $825,000 cap hit and is a two-way contract for the 2025-26 season before transitioning to a one-way deal in 2026-27, as reported by Chris Johnston of TSN and The Athletic.
