Cowan, the team’s 28th pick in the 2023 Draft, has worked hard to secure a spot on the roster but isn’t quite ready. Despite this, the Leafs are confident in his potential. After an impressive 96-point season with the London Knights, Cowan will likely return there to continue his development. He’s aware of this possibility and has a positive attitude, saying, “If they send me back, they send me back. If I stay up, that’s my goal, but if they think I’m not ready, I won’t dwell on it.”

Cowan acknowledges areas for growth in his game, including adding more physicality and finishing checks, while drawing inspiration from players like Max Domi, who combine playmaking with grit. The preseason has been tough for Cowan, but he’s received praise for his work ethic and talent, with both coach Craig Berube and teammates like John Tavares and Max Domi recognizing his dedication.

Although Cowan may not make the Leafs this year, he’s proven to be on the right track and is earning trust. His NHL debut may not be far off, even if it’s not in the 2024-2025 season.
