Derby County fans will always be grateful to David Clowes, a supporter-turned-owner who stepped in to rescue the club from the verge of collapse.

The Rams entered administration in September 2021 when former owner Mel Morris relinquished control.

Guided by Quantuma, the club struggled to stay afloat in the Championship while facing a critical battle off the field. Despite Wayne Rooney’s efforts, Derby couldn’t avoid relegation after a 21-point deduction, but they managed to survive as a club.

After nine difficult months, Clowes bought the team at the last minute, stabilizing the situation.

Since then, the past two years have seen the team rebuild and secure promotion back to the Championship. With this first phase complete, all eyes are on what Derby can achieve next under Paul Warne and Clowes’ ownership.

Clowes had indicated early on that he was open to new investments, and that time seems to be approaching now. According to reports, Clowes is willing to sell up to 80% of his stake to secure capital while remaining as chairman.

While no deals are imminent, Clowes’ search for investment is seen as a positive step for the club, especially compared to the turmoil of recent years.

With their return to the Championship, Derby faces tough competition and requires further investment to remain sustainable and avoid past financial mistakes. However, under Warne’s leadership, there’s hope that Derby can continue to strengthen and secure their place in the division. No matter the results, fans can take comfort in the fact that the club’s future is now secure.
