Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is nearing the end of his contract, and many potential replacements are being discussed. After the Cowboys’ Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, rumors began circulating about possible candidates to take over if McCarthy is let go. Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is a popular suggestion, but other names are emerging as well.
John Buhler of FanSided noted that while some options seem obvious, others are less well-known. Buhler’s top pick is Mike Vrabel, former head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Though Vrabel is sometimes viewed as a “retread,” Buhler believes he’s an ideal fit, particularly for his ability to assemble strong coaching staffs and prioritize a powerful running game, which could benefit quarterback Dak Prescott.
Belichick, who would be 73 at the start of the next season, is another option, though Buhler questions whether the Cowboys would want to hand over power to him. Other potential candidates include USC’s Lincoln Riley, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
