Former England international and pundit Carlton Palmer has dismissed speculation that Oxford United manager Des Buckingham will leave his current role to take over at Cardiff City, following the sacking of Erol Bulut. Despite Buckingham being linked to the job after Bulut’s dismissal, Palmer downplayed the likelihood of the move.
Palmer emphasized that Buckingham has done a remarkable job at Oxford, receiving strong backing from the club’s management. Considering his local ties to Oxford and the financial support the club has provided, Palmer stated that Buckingham is unlikely to make the switch to Cardiff at this time.
Buckingham has remained steadfast in his approach in the Championship, and it has paid dividends, with Oxford United sitting comfortably in ninth place after six games. It would make little sense for him to walk away from the progress he and his players have achieved to join Cardiff City, who are currently struggling with just one point and a single goal to show for their efforts this season.
