Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds is set to undergo a major surgical operation to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a significant injury that will keep the star playmaker sidelined for at least four months.

The injury occurred during a recent training session, with scans later confirming the worst for the veteran halfback. Reynolds, who has been an instrumental figure in leading the Broncos to a successful NRL season thus far, will now face a lengthy road to recovery.

This setback comes at a crucial time for the Broncos, who are eyeing a strong finish in the upcoming NRL finals. With Reynolds sidelined, the Broncos will need to lean on their squad depth and experience to maintain their momentum.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters expressed his disappointment but also backed Reynolds to make a strong return.

“It’s a tough blow for Adam and the team, but we know he’ll come back stronger. We have faith in our medical team, and we’ll be supporting him through his recovery,” said Walters.

Reynolds’ absence leaves a significant void in the Broncos’ lineup. Known for his leadership, playmaking ability, and precision kicking, Reynolds has been a key figure since joining the club in 2022. The team will now need to reshuffle its strategy to cope with his prolonged absence.

Reynolds, 33, has been one of the NRL’s top halfbacks for over a decade and was instrumental in guiding the South Sydney Rabbitohs to their 2014 premiership. His leadership and experience are invaluable to the Broncos, but the club remains optimistic about his return.

The surgical procedure, which is scheduled for later this week, is expected to be followed by months of rehabilitation. While four months is the initial timeframe for recovery, ACL injuries can sometimes take longer, depending on the individual’s healing process.

The Broncos will need to rely on their other playmakers, with the likes of Ezra Mam and Jock Madden likely to play larger roles in the coming months.

As Reynolds begins his recovery, Broncos fans and teammates will be hoping for a smooth and successful rehabilitation process, with the possibility of the captain returning for the 2025 season.
