Craig Berube reveals three intriguing new line combinations at Maple Leafs practice

The Toronto Maple Leafs have undergone significant changes this summer, and under new head coach Craig Berube, even more adjustments were evident during the team’s first practice of the year.

The 2024/25 season brings incredible expectations for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and after a busy offseason, they’ve made some key moves to strengthen the roster, giving them perhaps their best shot at a Stanley Cup in years. In the first practice under new head coach Craig Berube, we’re already seeing several intriguing line combinations. Notably, new addition Max Pacioretty is skating alongside two of the team’s most promising young players.

Additionally, the William Nylander experiment seems to be ongoing, with the star forward reportedly centering a line with Max Domi and Calle Järnkrok early in training camp. This could be a significant indicator of the team’s plans moving forward.

In the latest update from Jonas Siegel of The Athletic, it’s been revealed that Jake McCabe is currently paired with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, despite earlier predictions from sites like Daily Faceoff placing him alongside Simon Benoit on the third pairing. While it’s still early in training camp and adjustments are expected, this pairing highlights the intriguing changes Craig Berube is making as the new head coach.

Under former coach Sheldon Keefe, the team often made small adjustments without major shifts, but Berube, in his first training camp, seems determined to leave his mark. With immense pressure to finally bring an end to their long Stanley Cup drought, expect Berube to keep experimenting with the lineup as the season approaches.
