“Maple Leafs Overflowing with Goalies After Latest Signing”

This season, the Toronto Maple Leafs are committed to ensuring their goaltending is top-notch, and they’re taking a proactive approach by adding several options to their roster.

Today, the team announced the signing of Jon Gillies, a seasoned goaltender who has predominantly played in the AHL. Despite his experience in the NHL, having appeared in 35 games, Gillies’ statistics have been modest. Across stints with the Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, and Columbus Blue Jackets, he has posted a goals-against average of 3.38 and a save percentage below .900.

However, Gillies is being brought in on a professional tryout (PTO) basis and is expected to compete for a spot during preseason games. As reporter Kyle Cushman highlights, the Maple Leafs have an extensive list of goalies heading into training camp:

– Joseph Woll
– Anthony Stolarz
– Matt Murray
– Jon Gillies
– Dennis Hildeby
– Artur Akhtyamov
– Slava Peksa

It remains to be seen whether Gillies will distinguish himself among this crowded field.
