The Toronto Maple Leafs are kicking off their annual prospect showcase this week, inviting four young unrestricted free agents to participate. The team will head to Montreal for their traditional two-game series against the Canadiens’ prospects, marking the unofficial start of the hockey season.
Leading Toronto’s rookie squad are top prospects Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten, alongside defenseman Noah Chadwick, who had a strong season in the WHL. Also joining the team are notable prospects like Nikita Grebenkin, Roni Hirvonen, Ty Voit, Topi Niemela, Dennis Hildeby, Vyacheslav Peksa, and Artur Akhtyamov, most of whom are expected to start with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL.
Recent draft picks Ben Danford, Miroslav Holinka, Nathan Mayes, and Sam McCue will also be in action, along with free agent signings Jacob Quillan, Braeden Kressler, and Cade Webber. Five players on AHL contracts—Robert Mastrosimone, Matthew Barbolini, Ryan McCleary, Chas Sharpe, and Sam Stevens—complete the roster, along with four newly signed free agents: Brandon Lisowsky, Marshall Finnie, Maxim Muranov, and Rhett Parsons.
The Toronto Marlies coaching staff, led by head coach John Gruden and assisted by Michael Dyck, Steve Sullivan, goaltending coach Hannu Toivonen, and video coach Troy Paquette, will oversee three practice sessions this week from Wednesday to Friday, preparing the team for their matchups against the Montreal Canadiens prospects.
