There is a proposal for a trade that would see the Toronto Maple Leafs acquiring Scott Laughton. Nick Robertson, a forward for the Leafs, has requested a trade, and a suggested deal would send him to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Robertson, who is still a restricted free agent and has not yet signed a new contract, might be part of a multi-player trade involving the Flyers. According to PuckPedia’s new tool, PuckGM, one proposal involves the Leafs trading Robertson for Laughton and a 2027 third-round pick.

In this scenario, the Leafs would gain Laughton, who has two years remaining on his five-year, $15 million contract. Laughton is expected to serve as the third-line center for Toronto, potentially allowing Max Domi to move back to the wing and strengthening the team’s lineup.

Laughton, drafted in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft, has been with the Flyers since the 2012-13 season. Last year, he tallied 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points in 82 games.

Robertson, on the other hand, would have an opportunity for a more prominent role with the Flyers. Last season, he recorded 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in 56 games.

Laughton’s name surfaced in trade rumors before the 2024 NHL trade deadline but ultimately stayed with Philadelphia. Laughton expressed his satisfaction with remaining a Flyer, stating his pride in being part of the team and his ongoing conversations with Flyers’ management.

Robertson, drafted in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, has indicated he does not intend to re-sign with the Leafs following his entry-level contract. Despite his trade request, Leafs GM Brad Treliving remains hopeful about Robertson’s future role with the team, emphasizing that Robertson is viewed as a valuable player and there is still a significant opportunity for him in Toronto.
