Derby County’s new signing has earned praise from a former Premier League manager.
The Rams began the 2024/25 Championship season with a 4-2 defeat against Blackburn Rovers, where Paul Warne’s side struggled, particularly in defense, with Eiran Cashin criticized for a “rash” performance.
Despite the loss, new signing Kenzo Goudmijn’s midfield display provided a glimmer of hope for Rams fans. Goudmijn was one of four new players in Warne’s starting lineup, alongside Kayden Jackson and David Ozoh. The latter received praise from former Derby County captain Curtis Davies.
Among Derby’s new arrivals, Ben Osborn, who joined on a free transfer from Sheffield United, stands out. Former Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom praised Osborn, calling him a “terrific character” and noting his motivation and determination. Heckingbottom mentioned that he spoke with Osborn during his medical, highlighting Osborn’s excitement about the move to Derby County.
The experience and leadership Osborn brings are seen as crucial for the Rams, especially in helping younger players bounce back from tough defeats like the one against Blackburn. Despite the setback, Osborn’s determined nature suggests he will be a key figure for Derby this season.
