Yesterday, Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, surprised everyone by naming Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. While his social media is mostly filled with policy discussions and dad moments—pretty standard fare—there’s one intriguing detail that’s caught our attention.
Yes, you guessed it: a photo of Governor Walz wearing a Maple Leafs jersey. Talk about pandering! It seems that every politician, no matter where they’re from, has to show their love for the Leafs at some point. In this case, the jersey was presented during a meeting with Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, who is known for his tradition of gifting Leafs gear to visiting state Governors.
The photo, though poorly cropped, clearly shows Walz sporting the Leafs jersey, while Ford reciprocated with a Minnesota license plate. So, welcome to Leafs Nation, Governor Walz—and by extension, welcome to Leafs Nation to all the Democratic voters out there!
