Paul Warne has revealed that Derby County has received a few inquiries for some of his players and acknowledged that he might need to reduce the squad size this summer.

As he works to finalize the transfer window, Warne aims to secure a goalkeeper, striker, creative midfielder, and center-back. With six new signings already in, including David Ozoh’s loan from Crystal Palace, Derby’s squad now numbers 24 players.

The club is expected to make further additions before the transfer window closes, with the goal of crafting a squad capable of thriving in their return to the Championship.

While trimming the squad could free up funds for new signings, Warne noted that the process often works in reverse. He commented, “I think I am going to have to trim the squad. You want to do this by moving out players who won’t see much game time, and then use those resources to bring in top-quality replacements.”

He added, “I’ve had a few inquiries but nothing concrete yet. Ideally, you want to secure new players before letting others go, especially from a financial standpoint.”
