Robin Pröpper has yet to officially join Rangers, but he’s already faced with a significant challenge.

The Dutch defender, who played a crucial role in FC Twente’s journey to the Champions League qualifiers, is set to represent Rangers instead of the Tukkers in the tournament.

Rangers need to finalize the deal before today’s Champions League QR3 squad deadline. If completed, Pröpper could be in line to feature in this weekend’s Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts. However, his early test at Ibrox will come against a formidable Dynamo Kyiv, posing a substantial challenge right from the start.

Dynamo Kyiv Await Rangers

Rangers are set to face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League QR3.

The Ukrainian giants have just defeated Partizan Belgrade 9-3 on aggregate, showcasing their ruthless efficiency in attack. Although this tie was initially seen as favorable for Rangers, Dynamo’s dominant performance against Partizan proves they are a formidable opponent.

Rangers will need to be at their best to overcome Dynamo, who looked like clear favorites for QR3 after their 6-3 victory over Partizan in Poland last week. Dynamo Kyiv’s defense, which was a potential weakness, seemed hardly tested as they wrapped up the tie with a 3-0 win in Serbia.

Andriy Yarmolenko opened the scoring in the 16th minute, followed by a penalty from Vadyslav Vanat to make it 2-0 before halftime. Vanat scored again in injury time, highlighting Dynamo Kyiv’s serious approach to Champions League qualification this summer.

The first leg will take place at Poland’s Lublin Arena on Tuesday, July 30, at 7pm BST due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The return leg will be held at Hampden on Tuesday, August 13, at 7:45pm BST, following delays in the renovation of the Copland Stand.

With up to £30 million at stake for Champions League qualification, this represents a significant challenge for Rangers at such an early stage of the season.

Can Robin Pröpper boost Rangers’ Champions League hopes?

Dynamo Kyiv has issued a strong warning to Rangers’ struggling defense ahead of their Champions League clash.

Rangers’ backline has faced significant criticism during pre-season, having conceded four goals in a recent match in Germany. The team failed to secure a win in pre-season, recording two draws and three losses, reflecting concerns about their preparation and the uncertainty surrounding transfers.

As Rangers look to address these issues, they are set to strengthen their center-back position. Robin Pröpper, a familiar name to both the Rangers squad and fans, is expected to make a significant impact at the heart of the defense.

Pressure is high at Ibrox, and while Pröpper’s full evaluation will come at the end of his stint, making a strong start is crucial for winning over fans. Rangers need to improve their defensive performance, especially against formidable opponents like Partizan, with Pröpper tasked with revitalizing a faltering backline.

Currently, Rangers have Leon Balogun, John Souttar, and Ben Davies as center-back options, but Pröpper is anticipated to take on a role similar to that of Connor Goldson, who has been a key player for the club.
