Adam Idah seems to be having a tantrum as Norwich City responds with disciplinary measures after he missed a flight to a pre-season match, having returned home to retrieve his forgotten mobile phone.

Norwich fans, once again, are frustrated with the Irish striker. Prior to his loan move to Celtic, where he would work with Brendan Rodgers who managed to get the best out of him, Idah was already viewed unfavorably by Norwich supporters.

At that time, he was expected to be available for around £3 million, and few would have been disappointed to see him leave the Championship side. Celtic reportedly offered up to £4.5 million for Idah, but now, according to a blogger with insight into Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell’s thoughts, the £6 million valuation once thought would finalize the deal has nearly doubled.

It’s no surprise that Idah is upset. No club is likely to meet that inflated price, and if they do, it’s their gain. For comparison, Celtic could sign a potentially better goalscorer for about £6 million from Aberdeen, or spend what Idah was valued at in February on a player from Hearts.

It’s understandable that Norwich seeks a premium given Celtic’s interest. The recent appearance of Italian ‘bidders’ seems to play into their hands, possibly aided by the player’s agent stirring things up.

Few Celtic fans would support a move for Idah at any price. Norwich is playing hardball, and Celtic should now make a final offer and move on if it’s rejected.

If Idah remains at Norwich, his value is likely to drop significantly as the fans’ dissatisfaction grows and Celtic’s decision to walk away leaves room for lower offers. Holding onto an unwilling player is poor business for Norwich, as Celtic knows well.

However, player power often prevails in modern football, so if Idah is determined to join Celtic, it’s still likely to happen, but not at Norwich’s inflated asking price, which seems to have pushed Peter Lawwell back into the blogging sphere!
