While Rangers can anticipate an exciting final month of the transfer window, some of Philippe Clement’s fellow managers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of September.
There is ongoing speculation about captain James Tavernier’s future. However, Rangers fans can rest assured that the major stories at Ibrox will likely center around new arrivals rather than departures in the coming weeks.
In contrast, Heart of Midlothian supporters are in a less comfortable position. Lawrence Shankland remains a prominent topic in the media, especially with only one year left on his contract. Shankland, who finished last season as the Scottish Premiership’s Golden Boot winner and Player of the Year, has been linked to Rangers.
The Daily Record reported on Monday that Rangers are continuing to consider the possibility of signing Shankland, a move that has been endorsed by former skipper Barry Ferguson. Although manager Philippe Clement previously had doubts about Shankland’s ability to press from the front, the club’s recent struggles due to a lack of ruthlessness have reportedly made Clement more open to bringing in the prolific striker, who finished eight goals ahead of Cyriel Dessers in the scoring charts.
Rangers interested in Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland
While Rangers continue to consider the possibility of signing Lawrence Shankland, Hearts have not yet been contacted about the striker. This was confirmed by Tynecastle boss Steven Naismith in an interview with Sky Sports. Naismith described the ongoing speculation as an unwelcome distraction ahead of Saturday’s Premiership opener between Hearts and Rangers in Edinburgh.
Naismith stated, “There’s no change. There have been numerous reports suggesting Shankland might be leaving or is on a list, but we haven’t had any discussions about any of our players. We had serious talks about Alex Cochrane, which led to his move to Birmingham City, but we’ve had no contact or information about any other players at the club.”
According to the Record, Shankland could be available for around £3 million due to his contract situation. Rangers have also been linked with Rapid Bucharest striker Albion Rrahmani, though those rumors have recently faded. Another name to watch is Tommy Conway of Bristol City, with Middlesbrough starting the bidding at £5 million this week.
Naismith, a former Rangers player, is hoping to secure at least one more signing before Rangers visit Edinburgh. Hearts have already welcomed several new players, including former Livingston left-back and one-time Rangers target James Penrice.
Naismith added, “We’re pleased with the early arrivals, which helps the players settle in faster. We learned that from last pre-season. We hope to have one more player signed today who will improve our squad, and we’re working hard to complete the deal in time for the weekend.”
