The Pittsburgh Pirates were in discussions with the Miami Marlins about acquiring outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., but the 26-year-old is now heading to a different team.

Reports indicate that Chisholm is being traded to the New York Yankees, with the Marlins receiving three prospects in return.

This season, Chisholm has appeared in 101 games for the Marlins, mostly as a center fielder. He’s posted a .249/.323/.407 batting line with 14 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 50 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases. Over his 403-game MLB career, Chisholm holds a .246/.309/.440 line, with 66 homers, 205 RBIs, and 81 steals.

In exchange for Chisholm, the Marlins are getting catcher Agustin Ramirez, who is ranked No. 20 in MLB Pipeline’s list of the Yankees’ top 30 prospects, though Baseball America places him as the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect. The identities of the other two minor leaguers involved in the trade are not yet known.

Aside from Chisholm, the Pirates have recently shown interest in several other players. They have scouted Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz, who leads the team with 18 home runs but has a .243/.287/.417 slash line over 103 games.

The Pirates are also reportedly considering Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward and Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diáz. Ward has a .226 batting average with a .705 OPS and 15 home runs this season, while Diáz has a .272/.328/.394 line, with most of his success against left-handed pitchers.

Additionally, the Pirates are exploring other potential trade targets to strengthen their outfield. Possible names include Jesse Winker and Lane Thomas (Nationals), Cedric Mullins (Orioles), Tommy Pham (White Sox), Michael Conforto (Giants), and Kevin Pillar (Angels).
