After a career-high 44 games last season and a standout performance that led the Bruins to trade Linus Ullmark, Swayman established himself as Boston’s number-one goalie. His 25 wins, 2.53 GAA, .916 save percentage, and three shutouts contributed to the Bruins’ decision to make him their top option, but the team faces criticism for potentially giving Swayman’s camp increased leverage.

Comparatively, Rosen notes several contracts for goalies that might inform Swayman’s deal. Juuse Saros, who is four years older, signed an eight-year, $61.92 million contract ($7.74 million AAV) with the Nashville Predators before reaching unrestricted free agency. Connor Hellebuyck secured a seven-year, $59.5 million deal ($8.5 million AAV) with the Winnipeg Jets at age 30. Thatcher Demko, also 25, signed a five-year, $25 million deal ($5 million AAV) with the Vancouver Canucks.
